What is PGWP?
The Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) allows international students to work in Canada for up to three years after completing their studies. While this permit is non-renewable, it serves as a crucial stepping stone toward obtaining permanent residency in Canada.
Eligibility Criteria for PGWP
To be eligible for a PGWP, you must:
- Have studied at a Designated Learning Institution (DLI) eligible for PGWP.
- Have completed a full-time study program lasting at least 8 months.
- Have received an official degree, diploma, or certificate upon graduation.
- Hold a valid temporary status (such as a Study Permit or implied status) at the time of application.
Important: You must apply within 180 days of receiving your final transcript or completion letter.
How Long is the PGWP Valid?
- 8 months to less than 2 years of study β PGWP is valid for the same duration.
- 2 years or more of study β PGWP is valid for up to 3 years.
- If you completed two consecutive programs, the combined duration may be considered.
Who is NOT eligible for a PGWP?
- Students from institutions not eligible for PGWP.
- Programs less than 8 months in duration.
- Online or distance learning programs.
- Applicants who have already received a PGWP in the past.
